TAPAC presents Beautiful Losers by Mike Hudson, directed by Margaret-Mary Hollins, with Scott Wills and Ian Hughes.
This comedy/drama is based on the crazed and inspired relationship between writer Jack Kerouac and con artist/car thief Neal Cassady on their journeys through America in the 1940s and 1950s.
Beautiful Losers is a sweeping story of fame and its consequences. It is the story of the man who created the Beat Generation and the beginnings of the Counter Culture.
Beautiful Losers was performed at Silo Theatre in 2003, and Bats Theatre, Suter Theatre in Nelson and Playhouse Theatre in Hawke's Bay in 2004.
Margaret-Mary Hollins directs in stream-of-consciousness style, leaping through their wild life stories.
"Ian Hughes as Kerouac and Scott Wills as Cassady are hilarious, profane and tragic... Very polished and very funny." - Gilbert Wong, Sunday Star Times
"Ian Hughes (Jack Kerouac) and Scott Wills (Neal Cassady) perform with a marvellous, irreverent exuberance… A fine piece of work." - Frances Edmond, Listener
