CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

A documentary which examines New Zealand’s increasing use of imprisonment as an answer to crime and asks whether locking more people up makes our lives safer or more dangerous. This is a radically different approach to most TV broadcasts about how to deal with crime.

It examines the weaknesses of the "lock 'em up and throw away the key" approach and examines how some other countries address this issue. It also examines the role of alcohol and drug use in offending and the failure of the Justice System and Corrections Department to address one of the key drivers of crime.

Supporters of the Sensible Sentencing Trust will probably not enjoy the findings presented in this documentary.

Screening on TV One on Tuesday 16th March at 9:30pm.
