Great Kiwi Bake-Off Details
What: The Great Kiwi Bake-Off
When: Monday 7 March, on sale between 10.30am – 12.30pm
Where: Britomart Queen Elizabeth Square, Downtown - Auckland City
Why: To raise funds for Christchurch earthquake relief

Many Aucklanders have been left feeling helpless in the wake of last week’s earthquake in Christchurch, wondering what they can do to help from the other end of the country.

With the death toll rising, thousands of Cantabrians left without power or water, and hundreds without a place to live, we need to do what we can from a distance.

A super-sized Great Kiwi Bake-Off will be sweetening the air of Queen Elizabeth Square at Britomart on Monday, 7th March, as organisers call on Aucklanders to fire up their ovens in support of those affected by the Christchurch earthquake.

Bake, buy, donate – or all of the above! All the funds raised from the Bake-Off will go to the Red Cross, to aid in their support of those affected by one of our country’s most devastating natural disasters.

Bake-Off Organiser Glenn Browne says that he knows how powerless many Aucklanders are feeling.

“It’s hard to know what to do when a disaster hits your own country. The initial reaction is wanting to rush down to Christchurch and help with the search and rescue. Unfortunately, we can’t all do that, so this is a great way to help from a distance,” he says.

“Aucklanders have a great spirit and I know they will come out in force to support this Bake-Off as a way to rally around the people of Christchurch.”

Tasty treats can be dropped off at any train station around Auckland between 6.30-8.30am on Monday (7 March), or at Britomart between 7.30-9am. The Bake-Off sale will start at 10.30am and finish at 12.30pm.

Auckland Cake Art has donated a $500 wedding cake to be auctioned, and the City Cake Company and Cake Couture are also donating their gourmet goodies, so there will be no shortage of delicious bites to buy on the day.

If you can get to the Auckland CBD on Monday morning, bring some work mates, friends or family and stock up for morning tea. The time has come to rally up our support, and take care of our own - so get baking!
