EXCLUSIVE | FIRST @ INFONEWS.CO.NZ: A sweet-sounding street party prize went well over the weekend in New Plymouth and its all thanks to the New Plymouth Council.

Marfell mum Renee O'Keeffe spent 80 hours putting together a video and photo album of her community school and kindergarten to win her neighbourhood a street jam.

Offered in partnership with the New Plymouth District Council Let's Go programme the jam featured professional scooter riders performing tricks on ramps to music.

There were giveaways by MADD Gear Action Sports and children were encouraged to bring their bikes or scooters along.

The jam was called the Marfell Street Jam on Adventure Street which was from 3pm till 4pm on Saturday.

One Marfell resident told infonews.co.nz "It was a great event and I am proud of my community"

However there was a problem at the start when the prize was awarded, a advert for the comp showed lammingtons and sausages, and the community of Marfell were sad that it was not there.

Although the New Plymouth District Council did give the street $150 in supermarket vouchers towards the event after the problem made headlines nationwide.
