What Type Of Mattress Spring Is Best?

One of the most common questions asked by our customers is, “What type of spring should I have in my mattress?” There is a lot of confusion and ‘mumbo jumbo’ when it comes to mattresses and by the time the team at Bedmakers see customers many are completely confused. Both these systems are tried and true and most customers will suit one or the other depending on individual needs.

The Bonnell is a more traditional style spring with the individual springs attached for strength with helical wires; this is classed as an innerspring but is a huge step up from the continuous coil many of us grew up with in the seventies and eighties (no trampoline like movement on a Bonnell Spring!).  This is a cost effective option and is particularly suited to singles and king single’s where partner disturbance is less of an issue. The most important thing to remember when purchasing an innerspring mattress is the spring should never be compressed as this weakens it and is problematic once the mattress is in regular use. All IMPORTED springs are compressed to get them into the country; they are squashed into containers and can remain that way for months. The other type of spring they use at Bedmakers is the Pocket spring. Each spring is individually wrapped inside a non-woven polypropylene bag. The springs then sit within a foam box thus eliminating movement within the mattress. This spring system is a godsend for people who are woken frequently by partner movement. It does cost more for a pocket spring but this pales in comparison to lack of sleep due to partner disturbance.
