Nz Women Agree - It's More Expensive To Be A Woman.

In the results of a survey of New Zealand women about their attitudes and usage of make-up, 52% of respondents agree that it is more expensive to be a woman. The survey conducted by New Zealand’s largest beauty website www.beautyreview.co.nz  asked over 1900 New Zealand women for their opinions on make-up, their usage of it and their attitudes towards it.

Overall more than 27% of respondents rated make-up as being extremely important to them, with over 45% of women saying they wear make-up every day. According to Merilyn Havler, Marketing Manager of Beauty Review, the primary reasons women give for wearing makeup was to “increase their confidence, make themselves look attractive and to feel good about themselves”. “It was interesting", she said, "that 75% of respondents have felt at least some pressure to wear makeup and/or to pay attention to the way they look.” “The reasons they give for feeling this pressure though, are quite varied. Some respondents commented that it was society as a whole creating these expectations, whereas others felt it was self-inflicted, or generated by the media and brand advertising.”

The survey results also revealed that:
• Ask women to go without make up for a week? 46% would feel at least somewhat uncomfortable doing this, with 23% saying they could never do it!

• On average it takes women more than 30 minutes to apply make-up in the morning using on average five different cosmetics, vs going out at night where on average they will spend up to 45 minutes and use eight different cosmetics.

• Is cosmetic brand loyalty diminishing? Possibly, with only 9% of respondents reporting having “extreme loyalty” to any brand.

• The one cosmetic product that most women could not live without? A foundation/tinted moisturiser.
