Johnathan Chen, head of the James & Wells Asia Division, has been nominated and elected onto the New Zealand China Trade Association (NZCTA) Executive Committee board. The NZCTA Executive consists of up to 15 members who are nominated and elected by the members themselves to represent and act on behalf of the Association. Founded in 1981, NZCTA’s mission is to promote and strengthen the trade relations between New Zealand and China. Each Executive Committee member has, in their own right, knowledge and experience of doing business with China, and is elected to the board for a two year term.

The Executive membership will enable Johnathan to establish further networking opportunities with the organisation’s diverse members, which include a variety of New Zealand businesses that have an interest in China, including traders, shipping and freight companies, exporters, financial institutions and legal firms. With a working knowledge of conducting business in China and numerous business contacts across a range of industries there, Johnathan is well placed to act as a business / investment liaison between clients and the Chinese market.

Being literate and fluent in Mandarin, Johnathan runs the James & Wells Chinese brand creation and registration services, which ensures clients have useable Chinese brands and/or English brands which are accurately translated in Mandarin. NZCTA’s activities include regular member networking events in New Zealand, the arrangement and management of Trade Missions to China, electronic communications and information services, and acting as the voice of China traders with Government and media. Its new projects include introducing programmes to engage more fully with the Chinese business community in New Zealand and with New Zealand academies, and engaging with China and students.

NZCTA enjoys the support and involvement of both Governments, and partners with Export New Zealand in New Zealand, New Zealand China Council and the Kiwi Expats Association (KEA), the highly influential China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Shanghai Entrepreneurs Association.
