Turners are expecting record interest in upcoming multimillion dollar sales as the Christchurch rebuild is pushing up demand for quality used trucks and machinery, with interest in Turners’ upcoming Trucks & Machinery auctions already at record highs. However, it is not only New Zealand customers looking for a good deal; businesses in Australia, the Pacific Islands and Asia are also competing for the same assets. While imports of new and used trucks have increased 36% year on year to December 20141, customer demand is also rising, with the Christchurch rebuild contributing heavily to the growing pressure on the market.

Also a consideration is the current economic environment, with the high New Zealand dollar making it a good time to replace aging fleets and low petrol prices providing fleet owners with more cash flow flexibility. Receivership sales are an important part of the Turners’ business and in February, Turners is facilitating two multimillion dollar auctions for businesses which have gone into receivership or liquidation in recent months.

The first sale is in Christchurch, with the online sale of a large amount of trucks including tippers, asphalt related trucks, small work trucks, excavators, rollers, Bobcats, asphalt pavers, compactors, trailers, compressors, power tools, and a huge amount of civil contracting and workshop tools. The online auction starts on Wednesday 4 February 2015 when the equipment will be available for viewing at the new Turners Truck & Machinery site at 57 Lunns Ave, Middleton.

In addition to the Christchurch sale, Turners is also planning for a large sale in Auckland with millions of dollars’ worth of civil contracting gear, including excavators, diggers, bulldozers, rollers, graders, dump trucks, tippers, trailer and utes up for sale. The trucks and machinery are available for viewing at the new Roscommon Rd site, with the online sale starting on Monday 16 February 2015.

National manager of Turners’ Trucks & Machinery division, Brad Gardiner, said: “We are seeing record demand for quality civil contracting equipment, particularly from businesses in Christchurch, and there is simply not enough machines and equipment in New Zealand to meet this demand.” Turners has identified the growing Trucks and Machinery market as an important opportunity for the company and has seen sales double over the last three years as the company has fine-tuned its focus on this sector. In the last financial year, approximately 15% of Turners’ revenue was derived from trucks and machinery sales. Turners has invested into new sites in both Christchurch and Auckland in recent months as it looks to keep up with increasing stock levels and demand. In Auckland, Turners has moved its Trucks & Machinery division from its multipurpose Penrose property to a new 16,000 sqm site in Roscommon Rd, Wiri. A similar move has been made recently in Christchurch with the Trucks & Machinery division moving to a new site on Lunns Ave, Middleton.

As well as being the largest nationwide retailer of used trucks and machinery in New Zealand, Turners is also known for the professional end to end management service it offers on behalf of creditors, for businesses which have gone into liquidation. In a process which often plays out over a number of months, Turners arranges assessment and identification, valuation, transport and all other logistics to ensure the asset sale returns as much as possible for creditors.
