With the news increasingly focusing on and forecasting an even more serious housing shortage in Auckland in particular, it is becoming apparent that we need to be concentrating on more high density, affordable housing projects. To this end, it is interesting to read of several new developments taking place involving the Candor3 Engineering who are of the opinion that the most commercially successful projects are the ones that are built for people. At Candor³ they make better use of resources to deliver quality outcomes and to address the immediate needs of clients and the community, without constraining future opportunities.

To this end, Candor³ are excited to be a part of the team delivering the innovative Market Cove development in Favona, South Auckland. With circa 1500 apartments and terraced houses to be constructed this is a significant project aimed at providing a mix of much needed affordable housing in Auckland. Sited on the foreshore of the Manukau Harbour facing north the project has tremendous potential and has already received significant publicity.

Similarly, over the next two years the 30 hectare site at Flat Bush School Road at Flat Bush will be transformed into approximately 600 housing units comprising a mix of freehold housing, terraced housing and apartments. Construction will commence in February 2015 with the first sections due for completion prior to December 2015. Given the popularity of the area the bulk of the first 100 sections are already sold. Candor³ are carrying out all surveying and engineering works on the project. The southern portion of the site lies within a future development area and Candor³ are also working with adjacent neighbours to have the land rezoned through the SHA process.

Construction has also just commenced on a 72 lot development in Don Buck Road, West Auckland and stage one is due for completion mid-2015. Already fully sold down the development is sited alongside an existing bush clad reserve and will be an attractive place to live when finished. Candor³ have completed all of the engineering design for the project including the design of a storm water treatment device adjacent to the council reserve.

Candor³ are privileged to be involved with an exciting new development in Waimahia Inlet in  Weymouth aimed at delivering approximately 300 affordable homes into the Auckland market. The project is on the fast track having been declared a Special Housing Area and already creating a milestone when it had the honour of lodging the first ever consent lodged with Council’s Housing Project Office under the Unitary Plan. Lodged on 19th November 2013 the consent for the first 90 homes was issued on 20th December 2013 – a four week turn around and the Government and Council must be congratulated on their Housing Accord initiative if this is a sign of things to come.
