The team Auckland City Toyota TR86 race car of Tom Alexander has won New Zealand's leading one-make championship. The Toyota Finance TR86 Race series with the win decisively secured from runner up, Wellingtonian, Jamie McNee.

This weekend's Toyota Festival at Hampton Downs in the northern Waikato hosted the 2015 Toyota Finance 86 Championship final for the first time. The result could have gone any of three ways heading into the race, with a close battle between Alexander, McNee and Ash Blewettl meaning that all had strong prospects of taking the title. The weekend was hard fought between the three skilled drivers, but the round win - and the championship - belonged to Tom Alexander.

"It’s always a hard road securing funds to compete in motorsport and I wouldn’t be here without the support of Auckland City Toyota throughout the season so I’m thrilled to provide the best possible result for the whole team there,” Alexander said.

Auckland City Toyota have been behind the TR86 race series 100% in 2015 and are proactive advocates of the series and its up and coming talent. Throughout the 2014-2015 season, the team ran two cars, with multiple race-winner Marcus Armstrong needing to conclude the series three rounds early to take up a factory Tony Kart Racing seat in Italy. CEO, Rick Armstrong took the wheel in several rounds and they even assisted competitor, Matt Gibson, who had run out of fresh rubber for the final round.

“At Auckland City Toyota, we strive to be the best in everything we do. Being part of New Zealand’s best one-make saloon car series is part of that and we’re proud to have our brand on the two most competitive cars in such a professional class. We’re delighted for Matt, he has been extremely focussed all season and absolutely deserves the spoils of all that hard work, “said Auckland City Toyota CEO, Rick Armstrong.

Protégé of legendary racer Kenny Smith, who has shaped the careers of drivers like Scott Dixon, Tom Alexander now turns his focus to securing funds to contest New Zealand's premier single-seater championship, the Toyota Racing Series.
