Indie Home Collective is the latest ‘big thing’ to hit the lifestyle scene and their concept store in Newmarket, as well as their online store at http://www.indiehomecollective.com  feature a collection of pieces with an organic/eclectic twist. This month their focus is on some new arrival products, re-stocking their La Chamba tableware and their beautiful Pampa products from Argentina.

La Chamba is a range of unique and organic tableware, handmade in Columbia, centred on a tradition reaching over 700 years. Each piece is hand formed from coarse dark grey clay, and finer terracotta clay is then applied in a thin layer over the entire surface as a glaze. After drying, the surface is polished with semi-precious stones such as Tigers Eye. This time and skill spent polishing gives each item its natural patina and distinctive satin finish. After baking in the sun the items are placed in large earth kilns for firing which changes the terracotta surface to black.

There is a whole page on their website devoted to Pampa products, in particular their handmade rugs. Each and every Pampa rug is a one-off piece, handpicked from the indigenous community where it was designed and woven. The techniques used to make their rugs are part of the fabric of Argentinian tradition, heritage and ancient knowledge. Every rug is handmade from fibre to finished product using high-quality wool that is shorn, carded and spun by hand. Natural dyes extracted from plants, flowers, vegetables, insects, minerals and smoke are used to colour the fibres, occasionally with the aid of synthetic dyes. Using patterns and designs passed down through the generations and inspired by nature, Pampa rugs are woven on traditional looms in a process that can take more than six weeks. Once off the loom, Pampa rugs are finished by joining two woven panels with a central seam.

All their rugs carry the signature of the weaver in their individual design and slight imperfections. Named for the Argentinian landscape where they originate, every collection has a deeply rooted sense of place. These are the things that make Pampa rugs a truly handmade product.

Indie Home Collective also carry the Pampa Horses Series which has been documented by Argentinian photographer and co-founder of Pampa, Victoria Aquirre. This series has developed over the last 10 years and represents her vision of home, genuine beauty, freedom, solitude and nature.
