Almost all of us love the illusion of seeing gorgeous plants floating in the air. It gives us an impression of greenness and freshness in the home and even in the office. Hanging things as part of decorating our homes, offices or even our own personal space has become one of the most popular trends for some time now. Hanging plants give us the option of spreading fragrance and colour at different heights and is a very special way of surrounding ourselves with flowers and greenery, especially if we have restricted floor space, or limited outdoor area.

To this end, this month Kings are featuring their ‘Top 5 Hanging Houseplants’, in view of the fact that they have observed that trailing plants are all the rage. However, as they explain, not all plants are created equal, so here are their five favourite hanging plants.

The most ubiquitous and well-known trailing plant is Ivy. Ivy  is an easy to grow hanging houseplant that also helps clean the air. Smaller, larger leafed and variegated varieties are available and will look fairly stunning. Best grown in bright light.

Burros Tail is a super, easy-care hanging succulent that looks great. Other varieties of sedum are also around, and many will also hang about looking great.

Tahitian Bridal Veil AKA. Gibasis geniculata, or by their true scientific name Tradescantia multiflora is  a pretty, easy to grow relative of the invasive weed commonly known as Wandering Jew. Though unlike its invasive cousin, Bridal Veil isn’t going to cause problems in the garden.

Chain of Hearts with their sort of romantic heart-shaped leaves, are easy-care, look great, and just generally popular but popularity can be a pain. Sadly supplies of this plant are tight. However, if people would like to put their name down on Kings’ waiting lists in-store they will call when they’re in.

String of Pearls  is a showy, elegant creeping succulent. These creepers are easy to care for, look stunning and are regularly grabbed up as soon as they’re in. As the Kings’ team say, “If you’re after one and we’re out, make sure you put your name down as people can get surprisingly vicious fighting to make sure they get one.” Given that it's a succulent, people should make sure not to overwater as it would be very frustrating to kill your hard to kill funky fancy houseplant through care and attention, which we have all been guilty of.
