Global cocktail comp – NZ winner announced

Cameron Attfield has taken out the title of NZ Champion at the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge. 

Cameron battled it out against eight finalists at 1885 Bar in Britomart, Auckland on Monday evening.

The Auckland Gin room bartender received $2,500 and will head to Trinidad & Tobago in February 2016 to compete in the world final for the first prize of US $10,000 and a 2 year-long contract as the global Angostura brand ambassador.

Cameron had to create two cocktails in seven minutes, a freestyle cocktail and a rum cocktail both including Angostura Aromatic Bitters. Cameron was the overall winner and took out the best freestyle cocktail.

Cameron says he is blown away,  

“I’m really excited to head to Trinidad & Tobago next year to complete against some of the best bartenders in the world! I love what I do and I am so stoked to compete on the world stage.

“A contract working as a global ambassador for Angostura would be a dream come true for me.”

Second place winner was Riki Carter of the Matterhorn in Wellington who received $1,000 and third place went to Chris Litten of the Hummingbird in Wellington who received $500, and also won the best rum cocktail.

Judges on the night included Peter Murdoch (Federal Merchants On-premise Key Account Manager), Dan King (Bartender and Development Manager at Britomart Group), Nigel Kelly (Sam Snead’s House of Whisky) and Craig Jackson (Owner Dr Feelgood Iceblocks).

The eight New Zealand finalists also included:

Dan Clow, Matterhorn in Wellington
Denis Gambino, Andiamo in Auckland
Max Roberts-Bristow, Poquito in Wellington
Sam Wilson, Astrolabe Bar in Mt Maunganui
