That cold snap at the end of May gave some motorists a fright when they got into their cars in the morning and found the heating wasn’t quite as instant as they’d hoped for.
“If your car has a heater issue it could be an electrical problem, for which all our businesses have the expertise to diagnose and repair,” says Catherine Tocker of CoolCar Air Conditioning Centres, “or it could be an engine cooling system issue. The best thing for the customer to do is bring the car into their nearest CoolCar Air Conditioning Centre and have the fault diagnosed.”

“The way the heater works in a vehicle,” explains Catherine, “is by hot air circulating through the engine. When you turn the heater on, it opens the heater tap, which allows coolant [which is different from refrigerant] to flow through the heater core. The air flows over the heater core and gets warmed.”
“It’s important to maintain your vehicle air conditioning and engine cooling systems just as you would any other mechanical system in your car.”
