The Hero’s Journey model is different to traditional coaching in that Debra Chantry, Ventell’s Business Coach, works with both the owner or business leader on a humanistic level, as well as on the business side of things. The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell that appears in drama, storytelling, myth, religious ritual, and psychological development.  It describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of the group, tribe, or civilization.

During the hero’s journey he/she must face up to the beginnings of change and, in feeling the fear of the unknown, tries to turn away from change, however briefly. By meeting with ‘the mentor’ who gives the hero training, equipment and advice that will help them on their journey, the hero can reach within to find a source of courage and wisdom. The mentor or coach can then help the hero to enter into this new world which may hold unfamiliar values, and thus challenge them to go further, set new goals and achieve better results.

At Ventell, Debra provides independent, impartial advice to business owners and leaders who are struggling to balance their professional life with their personal life. Having a business coach or mentor can help them raise the bar for themselves and their business, challenging them to go further, set new goals and achieve better results. Debra believes in championing the leader, their culture and their team towards their vision and then celebrating their personal and professional success to ensure sustainable transformation.

Debra’s coaching methods give peace of mind, increased confidence, a fresh perspective, inspiration or simply a sounding board to bounce ideas off for growing her client’s business. As an empathetic ‘ear’ she listens to the challenges and difficulties her client faces, and sometimes this alone is all that is needed to identify strategies and opportunities for growth. Her client will receive honest, constructive feedback as well as on-going support and encouragement which builds confidence and expands their knowledge of leadership skills and management practices.

Debra’s personalised style of coaching means that she can assist in implementing improvements, support which is not always available after attending many business courses and workshops. Debra follows the Hero’s Journey as a model to develop people to their highest possible level, so for more information on Ventell and their business coaching services, please visit the website at http://www.ventell.co.nz .
