Hamilton's Ventura Inn & Suites Launches Young Woman's Tourism Career

With Travel and Tourism springing into the lead as New Zealand’s biggest export industry, Hamilton and Waikato are providing opportunities for people to move towards their dream careers.
One person pursuing her dream in the industry is Alyssa Bell, junior receptionist at Hamilton’s Ventura Inn and Suites.
Alyssa says completing a course at New Zealand School of Tourism has put her on a path which could open a number of opportunities for a career involving Travel and Tourism.
“My initial reason for starting my studies in Travel and Tourism,” says Alyssa, “was to gain knowledge in Conference and Event Management.
“My course at New Zealand School of Tourism included a unit in this as well as opening up other options.
“At this stage I have a few career paths I’m interested in, such as Conference and Event Management either in a hotel or resort or with an Events Centre.
“Another option I’m interested in is becoming a Travel Agent. Either way I would like to be able to successfully work for myself and have my own company or family company.”
Alyssa says her job as a receptionist at Ventura Inn and Suites has given her valuable insight and understanding of the industry.
“Working at Ventura Inn and Suites has added to my customer service experience in a different way,” she says. “All my previous customer service experiences were for retail sales.
“Working at Ventura Inn and Suites is helping me get towards my goal, as it is a step into the Tourism Industry.”
Alyssa has chosen to move away from New Zealand to do her internship, although she has no doubt New Zealand is the place to be, to further her career in tourism.
“I have decided to move to Canada for my internship to complete my studies, as I believe it will be a once in a life time experience. I will be working at one of the ski resorts, which I feel will give me that point of difference upon returning to New Zealand.
“When I get back to New Zealand, I will hopefully be able to find a position either in the line of work I want to pursue or at least one that will help me get there.”
Ventura Inn and Suites is located in the heart of Hamilton, on Clarence Street, close to businesses, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
It is the gateway to Hamilton and Waikato Tourism.
