Pro Bars, located on King Street in Frankton, Hamilton, are serious about safety when it comes to bike racks. A loosely fitted bike can do serious damage to your towbar and it is crucial that customers know how to fit bikes properly before doing it themselves.

Co-owner Andrea Andrew says that this is something which can easily be overlooked. “The main message I want to get across is how much damage bikes that aren’t loaded properly can do to a towbar. It is massive.” As Pro Bars are Hamilton’s number one supplier of all towbar needs, it is something Andrea feels strongly on – there is no need to compromise the condition of your towbar by not fitting bikes on a rack properly.

The general recommendation is for all bikes to be strapped to the back of your vehicle, but Andrea believes that customers should go a lot further than that to ensure safety – independent advice should still be sought in many cases.

Pro Bars no longer sell bike racks due to the damage that they can do, but are very open to speaking on the security that is required. Andrea Andrew says that it is critical that buyers get the opinion and training of a professional before loading their own bikes.

“A loose lightweight bike can do more damage to your towbar than a heavyweight trailer. I would most definitely suggest that before buying a rack customers seek the opinion of a professional and receive ample training on how to load properly.”

If you are thinking about purchasing a bike rack for the summer, consult a professional first. The team at Pro Bars are always available for a chat and can give you expert advice on all towbar or bike rack queries you may have.
