Auckland City Toyota has recently worked alongside the Auckland City Council to plant three Rimu tree saplings at Western Park in Ponsonby.

Western Park was chosen because of its close proximity to their Grey Lynn dealership, allowing their staff and the community, which largely consist of young families to enjoy the beauty of the trees for many years to come.

CEO of Auckland City Toyota Anthony Kearns, emphasised the importance of gifting an item such as Rimu trees that had historical significance to New Zealand and would likely be here long after we leave the earth.

The trees mark 50 years of Toyota in New Zealand and represent Auckland City Toyota’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable Auckland. “We are committed to being a responsible employer and contributor to the communities in which we operate, these trees are our way of thanking the community for their support over the last 25 years”.

Rimu Trees were chosen because of their long life span which can be anywhere between 550 - 1000 years and symbolise Auckland City Toyota’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable past, present and future.

Auckland City Toyota hope these trees will be enjoyed by the families in the area and help to cultivate a love of nature amongst children.

The planting supports Toyota New Zealand and the Department of Conservations Kiwi Guardians campaign, which aims to get young people more involved in nature.

The importance of this campaign is in how it embraces and encourages children to get out into the community and explore the beauty New Zealand’s country side.
