Papakura’s shiny new rubbish bins are once more attracting attention of the wrong sort.

Since Christmas, a further seventeen stainless steel rubbish bins have been stolen from locations in the district.

Council staff have reported the thefts to the Police and are adding further countermeasures to the bins to prevent thefts. Scrap metal merchants throughout Auckland have been advised to be watching for the bins.

Residents are also being asked to watch for suspicious activity around areas where there are rubbish bins.

The replacement value of each bin is $1200 including installation.
