Visitors to Otara Town Centre are guaranteed a feast of visual art when two Manukau Festival of Arts events open next week.

Manukau Arts are proud to present the Otara Art Market. The market will be held at the community courtyard, Otara Town Centre starting on Saturday, 1 November and continuing every Saturday through to Christmas.

Manager of Manukau Arts Leisa Siteine promises a lively programme of art-making demonstrations and art stalls selling high-quality, locally produced art products, design and adornment pieces.

Leisa says “This is a perfect way to support local artists as well as a great morning out for the whole family. While you’re checking out the art market take time to visit the Meat & Lollies exhibition at Fresh Gallery Otara located inside the town centre. “

Curated by Janet Lilo and Ema Tavola, Meat & Lollies brings together a diverse group of visual artists who have been invited to respond to ideas around food as a cultural language.

Exhibition Curator Ema Tavola who is based at Fresh Gallery Otara says:

“It is one of our most exciting group exhibitions so far and a special event for the festival. They are all new site specific works, ranging from large scale sculpture, print, photography and two compelling moving image installations.

“Over the last five months the artists have been meeting regularly to develop their ideas. They have built a great rapport with each other and the works complement each other beautifully.

“This exhibition builds on Fresh Gallery Otara’s reputation as a place for new, cutting-edge work - art that is made firmly in the context of Otara”.

A special limited edition catalogue will be available.

Meat & Lollies runs from Friday 31 October to 22 November at Fresh Gallery Otara, Shop 5, 46 Fairmall, Otara Town Centre. Admission is free.
