Te Awamutu street robbery

Te Awamutu Police are following strong leads following a street robbery in the town early this morning.

The robbery took place about 4.45am when two night workers were walking home on Sloane St and were attacked by two men in a car.

The workers had earlier been passed by the car and the occupants had yelled abuse at them before driving off.

One of the workers managed to flee and raise the alarm at a nearby service station but the second man was beaten and had cash, an i-pod and his shoes taken.

He was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance as a precaution after suffering a head injury.
