MANUKAU CITY

A new forum is now available on www.tellusyourmanukau.govt.nz, so that Manukau residents and ratepayers can discuss and debate the big issues that affect their city.

Councillors are discussing what will be going into the draft 10-year plan this week, and on 5 March, they will discuss the draft plan again before agreeing on the content of the draft before it goes to Audit. On 31 March, the draft plan will then go out for public consultation.

There are some big issues that will have an impact on Manukau. The community’s views on the long-term future of the city’s development are important as the council does its planning, because a ‘business as usual approach’ is unlikely to provide the social, economic, environmental or cultural outcomes Manukau’s community wants.

In addition, a new section will be included in the draft plan called Towards 2060, which is the beginning of a strategy to develop the city over the next 50 years. The discussion forum is an opportunity to discuss the big issues as they affect the city, both in relation to the 10-year plan and for Towards 2060.

As well, the council will be asking for your formal feedback on Towards 2060 at the same time as you make your formal submission to the 10-year plan as the first stage of public feedback.

A supplement about Towards 2060 will be in the 29 March issue of Manukau Matters, with the summary of the 10-year plan in the next issue due out on 19 April.

You can find out more about the 10-year plan and Towards 2060 and access the discussion forum on www.tellusyourmanukau.govt.nz.
