Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter call to injured rugby player in Paraparaumu

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called this afternoon the
9 May 09 at approx 3:45pm to a 20yr old male from Porirua who had sustained
a neck injury.

The patient had been playing rugby when the injury occurred and intially had
some sign of a serious spinal injury

Wellington Free Paramedics who arrived on scene treated the 20yr old male
for spinal injuries while awaiting the arrival of the Wellington Westpac
Rescue Helicopter.

On arrival of the Helicopter with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board, the
patient had been neatly packaged for transport

The Helicopter was able to land at the rugby park, near the patient.

The Patient was transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department with
a Wellington Free Paramedics onboard.

The Patient is in the Emergency Department where he is being assessed for a
possible spinal injury.
