Nelson Police are continuing investigations into a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at Upper Moutere on Sunday 28 June 2009.

Nelson Bays acting Area Commander, Detective Inspector John Winter, said two males were travelling in a Nissan Silvia vehicle heading in a westerly direction toward Upper Moutere village at about 5-40pm.

The vehicle has failed to negotiate a moderate bend near the township and has left the road.

The driver, a 21 year old Nelson man, died at the scene. The passenger, a 19 year old Stoke man, was airlifted to Nelson Hospital with serious head injuries.

Crash investigators are currently at the scene.

Reports from witnesses spoken to indicate speed was a likely factor in the accident.

Two other vehicles connected with the Silvia car were in the vicinity of the crash and the occupants of those vehicles are to be interviewed.

The name of the victim is not able to be released at present.
