UPPER HUTT

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at an Upper Hutt branch of Westpac Bank.

The robbery occurred at about 2.50pm on 4 August 2009, when a male entered the Main Street branch.

The male handed the teller a note demanding money. He left with a sum of money and was last seen walking north along Main Street towards McDonalds.

The male is a Caucasian or light-skinned Maori, approximately 6' tall, slim to medium build, late 20s to mid 30s with fine facial features and a long nose. He possibly has a black moustache.

He used several items of clothing to cover his head - a dark scarf over his mouth and a black beanie worn under a hooded khaki jacket, similar to Swanndri clothing. He also wore tidy blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the robbery or who saw the man in the bank or in the area at the time of the robbery is urged to call Upper Hutt CIB on 527 2300. Any information will be treated in confidence.
