Murder charges laid over family violence incident

Police have released the body of the woman who died as a result of a family violence incident in Kaikohe on Wednesday night.

She was Lola Paraha, aged 47 years, from Kaikohe.

A charge of murder will be laid against the 38-year-old man who was originally charged with assaulting Paraha when he next appears in court.

He is currently in custody and will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Thursday January 21.

As the matter is now considered before the courts, Police will not be commenting on the outcome of the post mortem or scene examination.

The Police investigation is nearly complete and a small team will continue completing witness interviews over the next week.
