UPPER HUTT

Police working on the Operation Skudder investigation have located skeletal remains down a steep bank in Upper Hutt today.

Wellington District Field Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Shane Cotter, says he notified Mr Skudder's next of kin of the development due to the possibility the remains are Mr Skudder's.

An area of Moonshine Hill Road has been cordoned off to allow for investigators to conduct a safe scene examination of the area where the remains were found.

Detective Inspector Cotter says a formal identification will be made, possibly using dental records or DNA.

Detective Inspector Cotter says the investigation is ongoing and lines of enquiry with friends and family is continuing, as is the scene examination at Delaney Drive, Stokes Valley.

Anyone with information about Harold Skudder's disappearance is asked to contact Lower Hutt Police on 560 2600 or to leave anonymous information on the Crime Stoppers line, 0800 555 111.

The release of further details is limited due to the prosecution.
