PORIRUA

Porirua Police are investigating a robbery which occurred at the Elsdon Four Square Dairy, Awarua St on Sunday 25th April 2010.

At about 6.00pm a balaclava-clad male entered the store armed with a large knife. He approached the female attendant and demanded money from the cash register while holding the knife up in front of him.

The attendant opened the till allowing the offender to grab a small amount of cash which he then placed into a yellow plastic shopping bag before fleeing the store. The offender ran from the shop into the Mana College grounds.

The offender is possibly a male Caucasian aged in his late teens to mid 20's. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt or jacket and black jeans or track pants. He was wearing black basketball style shoes with white tips (Chuck Taylor or Converse style). He was also wearing a black full-face balaclava and was carrying a Pak'n'Save yellow shopping bag. The knife was a large bread knife with a black handle.

It is likely that the offender was loitering in the area prior to the robbery.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at that time, especially if they saw a male fitting the above description.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Terry Laws at the Porirua Police Station on 238 1400.
