UPPER HUTT

Hutt City Council is bringing budgeting-guru Lyn Webster to town on Wednesday 16 June for a free evening of tips on spending less, saving more and making greener choices.

Last year, Lyn set about restricting her family grocery budget to $100 a week. In just 6 months she reached her goal and went on to cut her weekly grocery spend to a mere $75!

Council’s environmental sustainability officer Nicolette West says Lyn’s philosophy of choosing homemade over store-brought products is also a great way of reducing our impact on the environment.

“Cleaning products you buy at the supermarket often contain harsh chemicals which if we’re not careful can find their way into our waterways ... when you’re finished with them there’s also usually a plastic container to get rid of,” she says.

“Come along to hear Lyn speak and learn how to make your own laundry powder, dishwashing liquid and window cleaner, and walk away with recipes to get you started.”

Lyn will be live at the Lower Hutt Town Hall from 7.30 to 9.30pm. Goodie bags will be on offer for the first 100 people and there’ll also be spot prizes.
