Four Porirua businesses are being referred to the Liquor Licensing Authority, following a controlled purchase operation in Porirua at the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Stephen Sargent says on Friday night, Porirua Police teamed up with Regional Public Health and the District Licensing Authority, visiting 17 premises around the city.

A 16 year-old male volunteer and a 17 year-old female volunteer were able to purchase alcohol from three on-licence premises and one off-licence, namely a supermarket.

Senior Sergeant Sargent says, "It's disappointing that we had four out of 17 premises visited flouting the law, given the amount of education and awareness there is about selling alcohol to minors."

"All four premises have been referred to the Liquor Licensing Authority for further action."
