Crash closes Desert Road

8.35am - Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash at the summit of the dessert road, State Highway One north of Waiouru.

Initial reports are that it involves a truck and car.

Rescue helicopter has been dispatched to the scene, and the road is about to be closed until further notice.

North bound traffic diversions will be in place at Waiouru detour from State Highway One onto State 49 and South bound traffic at Rangipo from State Highway One onto State Highway 46.
