The annual K2 Rip Curl Bikini Downhill raises much needed funds for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mike Smith, Mt Ruapehu marketing manager says Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL), operator of Mt Ruapehu, has been supporting the NZBCF through the Bikini Downhill for four years.

“It was the perfect day for such an event. We brought the event forward a couple of days because the weather was looking more favourable compared to Saturday,” says Mr Smith. “Despite the date change we still had a great turnout, and everyone had a great time.”

Spring conditions at Mt Ruapehu are still looking great with plenty of snow and terrain open. The current stretch of fine weather has seen both Turoa and Whakapapa experience a very busy last week of the school holidays.

Last week Mt Ruapehu announced it had extended the season until 7 November for Turoa making Mt Ruapehu’s season the longest in the Southern Hemisphere.
