BLENHEIM

The Blenheim Bus service – free to SuperGold cardholders – is to continue as a sponsored service.
Sponsorship allows the service to hold down passenger fares.

Almost three-quarters of Blenheim Bus passengers board on the Redwoodtown-Witherlea route and more bus shelters are scheduled to be built next year.

The bus is a social service, subsidised by the NZ Transport Authority, Council and by Mitre 10 Mega. It’s hoped the locally-owned hardware business will be able to continue that support.

Unfortunately, it’s not economically viable yet to expand the timetable to cater to morning commuters; the vehicle is already used in the mornings to do a school bus run. A big increase in passenger numbers would be necessary before that could be considered.

Anyone may use the bus – it’s only $2 for adults, $1 for schoolchildren and free to under-5s.

Timetables available from Council, the library or on Council’s website.
