The rising number of vehicles stolen or broken into around the Papakura train station is of concern to the Papakura Local Board and the Police.

Area Commander Gary Hill and Papakura Local Board chair John Robinson urge vehicle owners to keep valuables out of site, or ideally, not in the car at all.

“More and more people commute from the train station, and on busy days there are around 1,000 cars in the park and ride area and surrounding streets,” says Mr Robinson.

Inspector Hill says people need to be vigilant to ensure they don't leave any valuables visible in their cars, and consider installing alarms and steering wheel locks.

“We’ve stepped up police patrols in the area as a deterrent, but obviously need vehicle owners to take some security steps too.”

Board Chair John Robinson would also like to see Auckland Council provide more security around this area.
