HAMILTON

Responsible tourism and sustainable management practices at Hamilton Gardens have
earned it a Qualmark Enviro-Gold Award.

The Award, which recognises businesses that work effectively to reduce their main
environmental impacts, was confirmed in August following an assessment and external
review process. This is the first time that Hamilton Gardens has received a Qualmark
Enviro-Gold Award, after securing a Qualmark Enviro-Silver Award last year.
Hamilton Gardens Director Peter Sergel said the award reflects their ongoing
commitment to sustainable management practices.

“We are very pleased to be the first garden in New Zealand to achieve this level of
award. It is an important recognition of the hard work of all our staff,” he said.

Hamilton Gardens is committed to a range of sustainable management practices
including recycling of glass, paper, tin, aluminium, food waste, office supplies and
garden compost; on-site mulching; and water conservation through night-time
irrigation, mulching, monitoring and recycling. It is also actively involved in programmes
which support the conservation of native wildlife, such as native long-tailed bats and
bellbirds.
