Masterton man in serious condition with head injuries

A 40 year old Masterton man is in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital after being found with head injuries early this morning.

Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says the man was found unconscious on the footpath of an Essex Street property near the intersection with Pownall Street around 6:00am this morning.

“The man was initially taken to Masterton Hospital by Ambulance but was later airlifted to Wellington Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition in ICU.”

D/S/S Hansen says at this stage Police are yet to determine the exact circumstances which has led to this man receiving his injuries.

"Investigators and ESR scientists have today conducted a scene examination at the location where the man was found, as well as speaking to residents in Essex Street.”

He says Police want to hear from anyone who saw the man in the Masterton CDB after 1.00am this morning or anyone who was in the Essex Street area between 1.00am and 6.00am this morning who may have seen anyone or anything suspicious.

The man is described as a European, aged 40 years, who was clean shaven with brown hair. He was wearing a black bomber-style jacket, dark blue denim jeans and black boots.
