Council appoints new Chief Financial Officer

Richard Briggs has been appointed Hamilton City Council’s Chief Financial Officer.

Council’s Chief Executive Barry Harris said he was very pleased to have secured a financial executive of Richard’s calibre and experience.  His extensive experience at senior levels in both public and private sector roles elevated him from a strong list of candidates for the role.

Mr Briggs is currently employed by Fonterra as Commercial Manager – Export with Fonterra Brands New Zealand.  He has held various roles with Fonterra, including Finance Manager for Fonterra USA.  He has also spent nine years working for Audit New Zealand, where he gained exposure to council and public entities.

In his new role of CFO with Hamilton City Council, Mr Briggs will lead improvements to Council’s financial systems and processes.

Commenting, Mr Harris said: “Richard’s blend of audit and commercial experience brings real strength to the senior leadership team, and I am confident he will drive best practice in financial management of Council.”

Mr Briggs said: “I am very excited at the opportunity to work at Hamilton City Council. I look forward to working together with Council, the Senior Leadership Team and the Finance Department, and supporting Council in delivery of its strategy and goals.”

Mr Briggs takes up the position on 29 August.
