Mostly fine weather is playing a vital part in keeping this upgrade project on track for completion in November.

A new footpath has been constructed on the eastern side of the road between Albion Street and Rebel Sport, opening up that section again to pedestrians. The road has been temporary sealed to provide parking and eliminate loose gravel. Final road shaping and sealing will be done later in the year at the end of the project.

As part of the project, council staff have finished laying large new storm water pipe, sewer pipes and water mains. Power and telecommunication providers also installed new ducts and cables, taking advantage of the construction of the new footpath from Albion Street to Vautier Street.

Works still to do include preparing and constructing kerb and channel and footpath from Rebel Sports to Vautier Street. Construction is scheduled to start on the western footpath on August 13.

Power and telecommunication providers are continuing to lay ducts at the Vautier Street intersection.

The upgrade of Hastings Street is being carried out in three sections over three years. Albion Street to Tennyson Street will be targeted next year and the last section, from Tennyson Street to Browning Street, is to be completed in 2014.
