A person has been arrested in connection to the death of a 17 year old Kapiti man.

Officer in charge of the investigation Detective Inspector Mike Johnson says 17 year old Izak Millanta died around 2:30am this morning, after being found unconscious by Police around 3am yesterday morning at the back of KFC in the Coastlands carpark.

A 25 year old Kapiti man will appear in the Porirua District Court tomorrow charged with assault in relation to the death of Izak Millanta.

“A post-mortem examination is currently underway. It began earlier this afternoon and is expected to take several more hours to complete. We are unable to provide any information on the cause of death at this stage.”

The victim was outside the Retro Bar in the Kapiti Lights carpark sometime before 3am yesterday morning where he was involved in an altercation with a group of people, before being found by Police.

Detective Inspector Johnson says Police have spent much of today speaking to witnesses and making a number of enquiries to establish the events which led to Izak being found unconscious by Police.

“If there is anyone who is holding on to information in relation to this incident and has not spoken to Police yet, I urge you to come forward and speak with us.”

Police are providing support to Izak’s at this difficult time.

Anyone with any information should contact Kapiti Police on (04) 296 6800 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
