Good response from public regarding Upper Hutt homicide but more help needed

Police investigating the death of Upper Hutt woman Mary Donnelly have had a good response from the community but still need more help.

Police commenced a homicide investigation into the 38-year-old's death on Monday, after her body was discovered in her Ebdentown Street flat by family members at around 10:15pm on Thursday 30 August.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday indicates Mary Donnelly died as a result of an injury, which Police are continuing to treat as suspicious.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton, acting officer in charge of the Hutt Valley CIB, says Police have now completed the scene examination and are continuing to piece together Ms Donnelly's final movements before her death.

"We have had a number of calls from members of the public, who saw Mary on Wednesday 29 August. We know Mary went to Lower Hutt that day but we are still piecing together her movements from about 4pm on Wednesday afternoon until the time she was discovered by family members the following evening."

Dave Thornton says, "We are still appealing to anyone who saw Mary at any time last Wednesday afternoon or Thursday, to contact us. We’d still like to speak to any of Mary's friends and acquaintances or shop keepers who may have seen or spoken to Mary prior to her death."
