PARAPARAUMU

A man is dead following a fatal crash in Paraparaumu this morning.

Senior Sergeant Alasdair Macmillan, officer in charge of the Kapiti Police says shortly after 11 o'clock this morning, Police and other emergency services were called to a crash on Ruapehu Street.

"A motorcycle has collided with an oncoming car, which was heading up Ruapehu Street, towards Valley Road. The motorcyclist, aged in his late 30's sadly died at the scene. The two occupants of the vehicle were unharmed."

The Serious Crash Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now investigating the circumstances of the crash and a scene examination is currently underway.

Senior Sergeant Macmillan says early indications appear that the motorcyclist crossed the centre line and collided with the vehicle, however this will be thoroughly investigated by the SCIU.

Ruapehu Street is closed but detours are in place.

The name of the deceased man will not be released until he has been formally identified and next of kin advised.
