Shoppers will have longer to linger in Taradale's redeveloped centre following a review of parking in and around the shopping precinct.

The Napier City Council has continued monitoring parking since the $3.1 million upgrade of the shopping precinct in 2010.

Recently, the Taradale Business Association sought an extended time limit for customers using the Lee Road car park. With spare capacity since the introduction of paid parking, the pay and display parking will be increased from 120 to 180 minutes.

In Gloucester Street, White Street and Puketapu Road, the time limit for pay and display areas will be extended from 60 to 120 minutes.

Meanwhile, off-street disabled car parks are to be converted to blue-marked spaces in line with CCS disability recommendations.

Paid parking in Symonds Lane will end at 1pm on Saturdays to meet the need of sports players and spectators for longer-term parking in the area.

Council staff, who are also looking at ways of making parking signage clearer in Gloucester Street, will report in six months on how the revised parking regime is working out.
