Hydroslides once again form part of the Hamilton skyline as Waterworld is set to officially open three significant new features to the public tomorrow [Saturday, 24 November 2007].

Waterworld’s two new hydroslides, speed slides and splashpad complex will be officially opened by Deputy Mayor Pippa Mahood on Saturday morning before the facility opens to the public at 10am.

The two new tube hydroslides are entered from a 12m high, six level, fully-enclosed tower. One is a 96.7m long, fully-enclosed slide while the second slide is 91.5m long.

In addition to the hydroslides, two new speed slides have been installed. Each speed slide is 40m in length with a 35 degree angled drop. Users can get up to speeds of 35km per hour.

There is also a new splash pad complex with 14 different water features for toddlers.

General manager Community Services Sue Duignan says Waterworld patrons span every age-group and the addition of these new features ensure that the facility continues to add more value to the experience our visitors can expect and enjoy.

“Council recognises that as a landlocked city, Hamilton’s swimming facilities fill a critical role in providing water-based activities and education to both residents and visitors.

“The appeal of the new features at Waterworld is that they offer something for every age group. The hydroslides and speed slides offer an extra thrill for patrons who are brave enough to ride them, while the splash pad provides an important facility for toddlers to explore the fun of water and learn to swim in a secure environment.

“There is little doubt that with its new offerings, Waterworld will continue to be a major focus for community activity and interaction.”

Hamilton deputy mayor Pippa Mahood says the new features at Waterworld enhance the facility and will no doubt become a major feature of Waterworld’s and Hamilton’s leisure options

“Hamilton’s rapid city growth is not a new phenomena but with such growth comes a requirement that we progress our city’s infrastructure to meet the needs of our developing city. Leisure facilities are an important dimension of this city infrastructure. The community has been very patient while the alterations at Waterworld have been taking place but we hope the new features will be worth the wait. The opening of the hydroslides, speed slides and splashpads brings the excitement and fun back to Waterworld as a destination facility to visit.”

From 10am, Waterworld will open for a public open day at which all the new features will be available for use.
