Viva Expeditions Gives You a Reason to Visit Cuba
Viva Expeditions’ Rachel Williams is talking up Cuba this month, and with very good reason. According to Rachel, once discovered, the allure of Cuba is hard to resist. Heavily influenced by a colonial past, contemporary Cuba has a rich mix of culture. The people are warm and friendly, the landscape is breath-taking and the architecture is a celebration of ingenuity. Cuba boasts many UNESCO classifications, including biospheres and world heritage sites. In short, Cuba is intoxicating and visually electrifying.
Viva Expeditions are offering a ten-day tour of the very best of Cuba ( Cuba Tours ), starting, naturally in Havana which in itself has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. The history of this magical place is captivating, with an array of colonial and baroque architecture towering above cobblestoned streets. A walking tour of historical old Havana is a must with the opportunity to wander through the colourful markets and lunch at an old Havana restaurant. No tour would be complete without a visit to the famous Buena Vista Social Club at Café Taberna Beny More in the heart of the old town. The next day is taken up with a panoramic city tour through modern Havana.
The next part of the tour involves travelling by road to Pinar del Rio Province, passing through the spectacular Sierra del Rosario and once there, visiting a cigar factory. Then on to beautiful Vinales to take in the spectacular views from the lookout at Los Jazmines. Another must is the Cueva del Indio. These caves have an underground river negotiated by boat, ending at a local restaurant for a typical Cuban lunch. The next day includes a visit to a coffee plantation and a refreshing dip in the clear, natural pools at the Rio San Juan baths.
Next stop, Santa Clara, steeped in history as a result of the battles that took place during the Cuban revolution then on to the charming city of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for magnificent open spaces and its baroque architecture. Not to be missed is the bar La Canchanchara to sample a typical Cuban cocktail. Next day travel to the city of Cienfuegos, known as the ‘Pearl of the South’, another UNESCO listed city and finishing at the Jibacoa, a tropical beach resort on the Cuban coastline, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Here is the chance to relax in beautiful surroundings with swimming pool, Jacuzzis, bars, restaurants, nightclub, tennis, golf, water sports and scuba diving, a fitting end to a wonderful Cuban adventure.
