New Zealand’s much loved broadcaster, Paul Holmes, announced today he is reducing his current working hours with Newstalk ZB. With over 25 years on the number one rating station, Holmes said it was a difficult decision but one he and his wife, Deborah, were excited about.
“I love what I do but there’s also much more to life than working, as Deborah regularly points out to me. We love our Hawkes Bay home and property and I’m looking forward to enjoying the farm some more and kicking back a bit.”

Holmes acknowledges 2012 has been a tough year.

“When you have a few health scares it makes you think and it provides an opportunity for perspective. I’m constantly tuned into the news to see what I could include in my show.  It will be nice to let someone else have that pressure.”

The Radio Network’s General Manager of talk programming, Dallas Gurney, says Holmes was a pioneer of the talk radio format.  “Paul was the original breakfast host on Newstalk ZB when we began in 1987. It took off and the rest is history. Paul is synonymous with New Zealand broadcasting. He sets the bar for others to follow.”

Gurney says Holmes will continue his association with Newstalk ZB.  “It’s a great outcome, Paul gets to sleep in and walk his dogs, but listeners will still be able to hear his brilliance as a contributor on the station.”
Holmes begins his new working arrangement from January 2013.
