A tourism brochure promoting walks in the Hokianga will be produced thanks to a grant from the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board.

The board granted the Hokianga Tourism Association $5,602 to research, develop artwork and print 1000 copies of a ‘Walk Hokianga’ brochure at its meeting earlier this month.

The association told the board in its grant application that the Hokianga had some stunning landscapes and that walking was the kind of ‘clean, green’ tourism the area welcomed.

“Tourists that place walking high on their agenda frequently have high levels of disposable income and will spend money on a variety of goods and services, especially accommodation, when they visit the area.”

The association will base the brochure on a popular brochure developed by Lloyd and Jacqui Walker in 2005.

“The brochure is now somewhat out of date. Some car parks and paths have been altered by DOC and time and weather have produced changes in the landscape.”

“The revised version will include updated versions of many of the current walks and some new walks. This is likely to include more walks on the north side of the harbour.”
