Further submissions are being sought for the Mount Cardrona Plan Change 18, Queenstown Lakes District Council senior planning analyst Ralph Henderson said.

The council notified the plan change in September, which would relocate potential future development of a village from the highly visible base of the Cardrona access road to a terrace above the Cardrona Valley Road.

At a workshop in 2003 the Cardrona community identified that the development of the existing 17 hectare zone would create some significant negative effects.

“The council approached Mount Cardrona Station in 2005, which has worked with the council and the community for the last two years to develop the plan change," Mr Henderson said.

The proposed new zone would allow for a mixture of high and low density development, including an education precinct and affordable housing on around 23 hectares of land with over 92 hectares retained for green space and pedestrian linkages.

In addition, the zone provisions would ensure an appropriate mix of uses within the zone, such as provision of permanent residential housing, visitor accommodation, worker housing, and ancillary small scale commercial amenities.

A summary of the plan change submissions would be notified on Wednesday and would be available from that date for further comment until January 25, 2008.

“Anyone can now comment on the submissions, which will be at council, in libraries and on the council website. We will appoint a hearing committee to assess the plan change and all submissions in the New Year,” Mr Henderson said.
