Carols by Candlelight has long retained a special place on the festive calendar, and this year’s event will be especially welcome after rain cancellations in 2010 and 2011.

“Carols by Candlelight is a chance for the community to unite and embrace the Christmas spirit,” says Community Recreation Adviser Paul McConachie.

“The forecast is good, and we’re hopeful of a big cheerful sing-a-long with family, friends and neighbours.”

This year The Take a Chance Singers will be headlining the free event, singing all the favourite Christmas carols.

Special performances by the Bays Barbershop Chorus, the Manawariti Kapa Haka Group, and young solo performers Hana Tava and Keiran O’Connor will round out the evening.

Mayor Richard Kempthorne will once again hold master of ceremony duties.

The evening runs from 7.30pm-10.30pm, with song books and candles available for a donation.
