Arson

At 8.30 p.m. on 18th January 2013 Invercargill Police and Fire Service attended a report of a fire having been deliberately lit underneath a large tree at the Elles Rd skate park.

The fire was extinguished by the attending Police staff and the Fire Service arrived a short time later.

Three juveniles were seen lighting the fire by a member of the public who reported this to the Police.

A 14 year old male, 13 year male and 11 year old male were apprehended by Police and they have been referred to the Youth Aid section.

Police wish to thank the public for their assistance in apprehending the three juveniles, and early attendance by Police meant the fire was not able to take hold underneath a large tree on the park.

It is not known at this stage if this latest incident is related to a spate of fires in Invercargill city recently and enquiries will be continuing.
