Media Release

21st January 2013

GABA (the Gay Auckland Business Association) will host a Mardi Gras inspired GlamStand when the Pride Parade returns to Auckland in February after a ten-year absence.

Drawing on the success of the Sydney GlamStand, renowned as the best place to the watch the world famous Mardi Gras Parade, the GABA GlamStand will offer a range of premium view options where guests can party the Pride Parade away in a comfortable setting, with access to good food and refreshments.

The Auckland Pride Parade 2013 will take place on Saturday 16 February, starting at Three Lamps, Ponsonby Road in the late afternoon at 3pm and travelling the length of Ponsonby Road to end at Western Park. The Pride Parade has the theme “One Community” reflecting a Rainbow community that is one in its diversity, a community that has matured, and a community that has a place in the wider community.

Tickets to the GABA GlamStand will be available from iTicket and various retailers from $75 each. There will be a GABA pre-Parade entertainment line-up, details of which are still to be announced.

Michael Richardson, GABA President says: `GABA is very happy to be working with the Auckland Pride Board and to be involved with the new Pride festival in a meaningful way. The GlamStand will provide grand-stand seating for GABA members and invited guests including VIPs. The format is consistent with other pride parades and similar events run internationally with great success. We believe there will be demand for high-quality seating and facilities and this is an opportunity to enhance the profile of Auckland Pride, GABA, and the wider gay community. Any profits will go to the GABA Charitable Trust.’
